For many years, I have been using a term, albeit using it softly, to describe my spiritual journey. I have said that I am a Christian agnostic. Incongruous? For some perhaps, but not for me. By the use of such a description, I capture the freedom that Christ has given me to follow even when my faith is faltering. Over and over again, I rediscover that it is in the following that I believe. In my own limited acts of sacrifice, kindness and forgiveness, a window to God is opened and the light of truth is revealed. So often I meditate on the words of Albert Schweitzer, who grew so tired of the endless talk about believing and so began a life of following. "Let your life be your argument," the great man said. Show people the Christ by the life you lead not the words you speak. Our Lord Jesus showed us God by the life that he led. It was his life that gave credence to his words. It was his life that invites me to follow, faltering faith and all. |
