Confessions of a Christian AgnosticHome

Here is something that may shock you.

I believe I have the most important job in the world.

What I sometimes do is far more vital than any other job I could have. It is more important than being a teacher, a lawyer, a doctor, a plumber...more important than being the president of the U.S.

The most important job I have is being a Christian.

Make sure you don’t confuse that with being a pastor. Sometimes they don’t have anything in common.

Being a Christian is second to none. It is committing one’s life to following Christ. It is living out the gospel of love through prayer, worship, sacrifice and service to others. There is simply nothing more important than this.

It takes all kinds of shapes and sizes. Mine often has me dressed in black or wearing long robes. Yours may have you in a business suit or coveralls. Whatever the form, it is our faith lived out that matters more than anything else in the world.

Whenever we are tempted into thinking that following Christ can come second or third, we stop understanding Christianity. We no longer comprehend the kingdom and Christian activity seems foolish and foreign to us. It is when Christianity becomes just a Sunday thing or an intellectual thing or a bumper sticker thing or even a doctrinal thing that we no longer understand and we start thinking that loving our enemy is really kind of stupid or worship really isn’t all that important or giving money to those in need is really not very prudent and on and on and on.
