Confessions of a Christian AgnosticHome

Here is a quote from Paul Tillich that I've carried around for years and refer to often...especially on the darker days:

"You are accepted. You are accepted, accepted by that which is greater than you and the name of which you do not know. Do not ask for the name now; perhaps you will find it later. Do not try to do anything now, perhaps later you will do much. Do not seek for anything; do not perform anything; do not intend anything. Simply accept the fact the fact that you are accepted. If that happens to us we experience grace. After such an experience we may not be better than before and we may not believe more than before. But everything is transformed."

-I keep a running collection of possible sermon titles...

-THE LITE OF THE WORLD - How 'bout that one for an expose on the kind of pablum that passes for preaching nowadays?

-WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN YHWH - Exploring forgiveness of sins before Jesus.

-One of my favorite quotes of all time and a telling critique of Christianity...

-"Most of us don't believe that God is as good as Jesus says."
-Reinhold Niebuhr

-Speaking of quotes...

-What you need is a cup of understanding, a barrel of love and an ocean of patience."
-Francis de Salles on Spiritual Growth

-"If I appear to stray from the path that leads to Jesus in my search for truth, I will not have gone far before I meet Him standing there."
-Simone Weil

-"Get mad. Then get over it."
-Colin Powell

-"The worst sin towards others is not to hate them but to be indifferent to them."
-George Bernard Shaw

-"A good monk has trouble remembering his own name."
-Brother Theophane
