As I look on history, the world’s and my own, it is easy to see that what has galvanized people into action and change is not great wars or religious crusades, not political demagoguery. Remember please that the "war to end all wars" was several wars back. And what so-called Christians have done to claim the world for Christ frequently planted seeds of hatred and bigotry that are still bearing fruit today. The great moments in our history have come in often very simple, gentle ways. A skinny Hindu goes on a hunger strike in India. A German monk posts 95 theses on a Wittenberg door. A too tired cleaning lady refuses to move to the back of the bus. It is in these quiet acts of prophesy that God’s plan for the world is revealed. |
