Confessions of a Christian AgnosticHome

The role of Christian as servant of all is, for the most part, an alien concept.

We have been raised to think that following Christ is a comfortable life of material rewards and psychological blessings. The peace that passes all understanding has come to be understood as a kind of pleasant state of personal bliss that has us feeling enormously comfortable even as the rest of the world cries out in pain.

How alien that is to Christ.

To align ourselves to Jesus is to be called into the suffering. It is to never turn our backs on the cries of the world, even when such an alignment is considered foolish, impractical, irresponsible.

Our cross is the call to servanthood and if such a stigma is not what we want for the church then let’s be up-front about it and call ourselves members of the one, holy, catholic and apostolic club.
