Of course not.

No one can understand the attraction of friends except the friends themselves. That is why I am so convinced that you simply cannot force someone to believe anything. The image of God ranting and raving and consigning me to hell for not believing this or that is antithetical to the friendship that Jesus promised.

A friend simply loves. No strings attached.

If one is a friend of God’s, then one simply wants to spend time in that friend’s presence. Daily prayer, frequent worship, eager communion...these are the marks of friendship.

Marks that only friends understand.
