I have often wondered over the necessity some people have to discover whether I am saved or not. "Are you saved?" is a question that shouldn’t have to be asked. It should be evident by the life I live. If I really do believe in this God of love, it should be obvious from the life I live. That is not to say, of course, that I will not fail in my attempts to follow Jesus but I will continue to try and live out my faith in love by struggling to love myself and others. It should be self-evident. If it is not, then the question as to my salvation is rather redundant. It is a rare Bible passage that has Jesus urging us to worry about the life hereafter. Over and over again, Jesus focuses on the life here and now. And over and over again, he points to putting our faith in love into action and thus entering the Kingdom of Heaven. "Salvation is now!" Jesus says in a hundred different ways. |
