Confessions of a Christian AgnosticHome

"Behold, I make all things new..."

Sometimes new things are not well appreciated and often that is particularly true in the church.

For an institution that has as its reason for being an empty tomb, I do find it somewhat discouraging that often the very last thing the church seems to be doing is anything new.

Although I treasure the church’s heritage and respect its traditions, I am often terribly disappointed at our reluctance over resurrection. There are times when I am convinced that our doctrines and dogma are nothing more than a refuge for the frightened. We want to chisel the truth in stone.

Such an exercise is always futile because Christ is alive.

Christ lives and cannot be codified, classified or categorized. Love is uncontrollable, grace is always amazing. The minute we seek to control or contain it, it disappears.

Love controlled is not love. Christ constrained is not Christ.

The church has, too often, been captured by those who are afraid to stand at the empty tomb for awhile and simply ponder the potential for making all things new.
