I remember the story of the dying Scotsman who complained to his pastor that he couldn’t pray as often or as long as he’d like.

"Me knees give out," he confessed.

The wise minister offered a suggestion.

"Forget about going to your knees when you pray. Instead, just pull up a chair and imagine Jesus sitting there with you. Talk to him as you would a friend."

A few days later, the old Scot died and when his body was discovered, his hand lay outstretched upon the chair.

A bit sentimental, perhaps, but still a lovely image of the friendship of God.
