It has always been somewhat amusing to me that every Sunday morning, in little towns and big cities, all across our nation, people get dressed up in their finest, most sensible clothes, pack the kids into the car, always with the admonition that they'd better be quiet or else, and then come to church, acting as if what they are doing is the most sensible thing in all the world. We come and sit in pre-programmed lines, recite pre-programmed words and sing pre-programmed songs and never bat an eye when Jesus calls us to hate our families, give away all that we have or pick up a cross and die. Do you think that we are possibly missing something? Perhaps over the last couple of thousand years we have managed to make Christianity so civilized that it no longer is Christianity? |
